                        New telephone exchange in Saranda, being
produced
                                          by "ALCATEL"

                       SARANDE, April 2 (ATA)- By. Sh.Hajno The Italian
company
                       "ALCATEL" has started the production of the new
telephone
                       exchange in the district of Saranda, sources from
the
                       branch of Telecom in Sarande reported to ATA on
Sunday.
                       "ALCATEL", the bid's winner, is working with the
purpose of
                       completing and assembling the new telephone
exchange in
                       the upcoming months. To realize this investment,
Albanian
                       Telecom has accorded out of its incomes, nearly
US$ 2
                       million.
                       This telephone exchange will provide through the
prefix the
                       urban and interurban connection.
                       During the past three years in Saranda, the
construction of
                       the new internal telephonic network has been
completed
                       thus preceding the new telephone exchange being
                       produced. Recently, through a fund worth 7.5
million lek,
                       accorded by Albanian Telecom, the telephonic
cable have
                       been laid in the villages of Metoq and Gjashte as
well
                       included in the administrative unit of Saranda's
municipality.
                       The operations of the new telephonic network in
the city of
                       Saranda have been carried out by the Italian
companies
                       "ALCATEL" and "CIRT".
