NAAC Outraged at the Detention of General Ceku
 
Washington, D. C. October 23, 2003: The National Albanian American
Council (NAAC) issued the following statement regarding the detention of
General Ceku by the Slovenian authorities.  The Albanian version of this
press release is also enclosed below.
 
The National Albanian American Council expresses its outrage at the
detention of Lieutenant General Agim Ceku by the Slovenian authorities
pursuant to an Interpol warrant lodged by the Serbian government. This
incident comes on the heels of the detention of the Chairman of the
Democratic Party of Kosova by Hungarian authorities acting on a similar
warrant lodged by Milosevic.  While both were soon released, these
actions insult the people of Kosova, undermine important interlocutors
and sew instability into the region.
 
Serbian calls for General Ceku's extradition illustrate that despite
their efforts to redefine themselves as reformed Serbia continues to
stand much closer to Milosevic's values than to western democratic
principles.  The international community must ask itself: with whom is
Kosova being asked to dialogue?
 
We call on the international community to immediately take all necessary
measures to vacate these Milosevic-tainted warrants.  We call on the
people of Kosova to rally around and strengthen her institutions so they
can better protect her citizens and her interests.

KKSHA-ja  OKB-së:  Respekto vullnetin e popullit të Kosovës

 
Washington DC, 23 tetor 2003: Këshilli Kombëtar Shqiptaro Amerikan
(KKSHA) lëshoi këtë deklaratë për shtyp në lidhje me arrestimin  që iu
bë dje Gjeneral Agim Ceku-t nga autoritetet Sllovene.
 
Këshilli Kombëtar Shqiptaro Amerikan (KKSHA) shpreh indinjatë të thellë
në lidhje me arrestimin e gjeneral Agim Çekut prej autoriteteve sllovene
ne bazë të një urdhër-arresti të Interpolit të nxjerrë nga qeveria
serbe.  Kjo ngjarje vjen menjëherë pas arrestimit të Kryetarit të
Partisë Demokratike të Kosovës nga autoritet hungareze që gjithashtu
vepruan në bazë të një urdhëri të ngjashëm. Megjithëse të dy u liruan
brenda një kohe të shkurtër, arrestimet e tyre fyejnë popullin e
Kosovës, denigrojnë interlokutorë të rëndësishëm, dhe mbjellin
jostabilitet në rajon.
 
Kërkesat serbe për ekstradimin e gjeneral Çekut ilustrojnë se megjithë
përpjekjet për t'u ridimensionuar si e reformuar, Serbia vazhdon të
mbetet më pranë vlerave të Milosheviçit sesa parimeve demokratike
perëndimore.  Bashkësia ndërkombëtare duhet t'i bëjë vetes këtë pyetje:
me kë po i kërkohet Kosovës që të ketë dialog?
 
Ne i bëjmë thirrje bashkësisë ndërmbëtare që të marrë të gjitha masat e
nevojshmë për zhvlerësimin e këtyre urdhër-arrestimeve Milosheviçiane.
Ne i bëjmë thirrje popullit të Kosovës që të bashkohet dhe të forcojë
institucionet e saj në mënyrë që këto institucione të mund të mbrojnë sa
më mirë qytetarët dhe interesat e Kosovës.
 
Këshilli Kombëtar Shqiptaro Amerikan (KKSHA) është një organizatë jo
përfituese dhe jo qeveritare e dedikuar ndaj përkrahjes së çështjeve
shqiptare, promovimit të paqes dhe zhvillimit ekonomik në Ballkan për të
forcuar politikat demokratike, për të  inkurajuar respektin për të
drejtat e njeriut nëpërmjet ofrimit  të programeve të zhvillimit dhe
