I was just browsing the net under a search titled " Kosovo" and I came across your site. I followed the war in Kosovo as it happened with a sort of removed or detatched interest, naturally I was disgusted with the cruel and inhumane killing and my heart went out to Kosovo and its Ethnic Albanian inhabitants, however back then I had no burning desire to help or to do anything about it as I do now. Last summer I went to Switzerland, there I spent nine weeks living in the same house as seven Ethnic Albanian Kosovar Refugees. We all became great friends. I became particularly friendly with one man (Artan Vuqiterna) from Orahovec. He was only 20 years old and to my horror one night he told me his story; that his whole family (his mother, his father , his younger brother, and his two older sisters) had been killed by serbian rebels. After that I heard story after horrifying story about the goings on in Kosovo and I saw the affects that it had on these seven people. After a tearful goodbye I came home to Ireland and kept in contact with my new found friends by phone until Swiss Refuggee Control located them. Now that the war in Kosovo was over the refuggees in Switzerland were slowly being evicted. They are now all back in Kosovo and I have only spoken with one man, Dema Slivova since then. In college we have been assigned a study and research proposal to research Poverty, Homelessness and Suicide among women in a European country of our choice. I have chosen to study Kosovo and other Former Yugoslavian States to see how things are developing after the war. If it would not be to much trouble for you would you please email me some information on: The Rate of Homelessness and the effect that has on the Rate of Suicide among Young Women in Pristina. What are the causes of homelessness there? And how are the state of minds of these women since the war has ended? Thanking you in advance and wishing you and your country the very best future. You have all of my prayers anyway Fiona Counihan
