  Paul needs a cure... It Could Be You!
  SAVE PAUL AND OTHER ALBANIANS!
   
  A FREE and SIMPLE test of your saliva will tell if you can SAVE A LIFE by becoming a bone marrow or stem cell donor.
   
  My brother-in-law, Paul Theodore, an American of Albanian descent is suffering from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia and is desperately in need of a bone marrow transplant from a donor like yourself. The chances of finding a compatible match are dramatically improved within ethnic and racial groups because the tissue typing follows those lines. Getting tested and registering with the National Bone Marrow Registry is the first step in finding out if you can save Paul’s life or the life of another Albanian who might be afflicted with this disease. There are not enough Albanians in the Registry. We hope no one else is afflicted with this terrible disease in the future but no one is immune from it. What if the next case is your son, daughter, spouse, mother, father, friend, co-worker or even yourself? By spreading the word and having everyone you know get tested and registered with the National Bone Marrow Registry, there may be a match waiting for the next Albanian when they need
 it.
   
  Everyone thinks that your brother or sister will be a match for you but there is only a 25% chance your brother or sister will be a match for you. We must increase the number of Albanians in the registry. We did a marrow drive to find a donor for Paul and had a good turnout. About 100 people were tested. Even though we aggressively publicized it throughout the Albanian community, it appears that only 3 of these people were of Albanian decent. Paul is the nicest, kindest and most caring person you will ever meet. If you were in need, he would be the first on line to help you. Please don’t turn your back on Paul and this important cause.
   
  To register you must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good health. You will have your cheek swabbed with a Q-tip and your tissue type will be confidentially stored. At anytime, you can withdraw from the registry. If you are a match for Paul or some other person in need of a transplant, you will be contacted when the match occurs and arrangements will be made for you to donate marrow. The marrow drive and testing only collects samples to be tested to determine if you are a match for someone in need and can save a life. There are two ways to donate your marrow. The first is similar to donating blood except your marrow is donated instead of blood. The second way is extracting marrow, which is like getting a shot in reverse. There is certainly more to each process and it will be explained at the marrow drives before you decide to register. Just like with a blood donation, your body will regenerate these cells in a matter of weeks. You give someone the cells to save
 their life and your body grows the cells back. 
   
  Please come to a marrow drive and bring everyone you know and have them bring everyone they know. The more people that register, the better the chances are to find a match for Paul or some other person and save a life. Please help Paul, he desperately needs a marrow donor to save his life. We are praying that everyone gets a match, but you need to take the FREE test to find out if you can SAVE A LIFE.
