Pershendetje,

We (at alb-net.com) have been sending updates and information regarding the
Kosova Crisis and the Macedonian Crisis via KCC-NEWS and AMCC-NEWS lists
for the past 5 year or so. Unfortunately, most of these updates were
covering the terrible occurrences of massacres, repression of human rights
and freedoms, etc.

At this point I would like to distributes to the members of KCC-NEWS and
AMCC-NEWS information and updates regarding some positive developments in
the front to improve the human, civil, cultural, academic, and religious
rights and freedoms throughout the Albanian lands.

Most notable is the MJAFT campaign (www.mjaft.org).

So far, I have the following 3 items on my lists:

all the peoples in Albania, Macedonia, Kosova and Montenegro.

PLEASE, let me know in the next day or so of any other similar activities
that have been taking places in (or in relation to) the Albanian lands.

2) Kosova Action Network - KAN

Since 1997, the Kosova Action Network (KAN) has been active in promoting
human rights efforts initiated by the people of Kosova themselves. It
operates as a loosely organized association, which allows us to respond to
issues within Kosova quickly. We seek to directly empower the citizens of
Kosova, regardless of gender, political affiliation, or ethnic origin. KAN
emphasizes the word ACTIVISTS, believing that an active citizenry is the
solution to creating an open, civil society, an effective democratic
system and country, and individual freedom and dignity. We are independent
of any political affiliations.

4) American University in Kosovo (AUK)

The American University in Kosovo (AUK) is a newly established private
institution of higher education in Kosovo. It is one of only a few
universities in South Eastern Europe offering degrees recognized in both
the United States and Europe/Kosovo. The University has been established
through a partnership between the American University in Kosova Foundation
(AUKF) and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), a leading American
university based in upstate New York.

AUK is a multi-ethnic institution striving to provide high quality
educational opportunities to students from Kosovo and other countries in
the region. The program of study, at least initially, will focus on
entrepreneurial leadership and small and medium enterprise (SME)
management. AUK's internationally recognized faculty comes from throughout
the United States, Europe, and Canada to deliver courses in Kosovo.

5) Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA)

The KTA has been established to preserve or enhance the value, viability,
and corporate governance of socially owned and public enterprises in
Kosovo. For Socially Owned Enterprises the KTA is able to initiate:
'Spin-offs' and Liquidation, its preferred procedures for privatisation.
The Regulations establishing the KTA were promulgated on 13th June 2002
and are linked to this website.

The powers of the KTA are vested with the Board of Directors, comprised of
four international Directors and four residents of Kosovo. The day to day
operations of the KTA are managed by a team of professional local and
international staff.

6) The Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development is a program of
the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation that aims the strengthening of
democracy and democratic values in Kosovo. The Kosovar Institute for
Policy Research and Development was developed out of a long cooperation
between the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation and the Olof Palme
International Center. KCSF and OPIC started the development of the
Internet Academy for Democracy in 2001 and by late 2002, this constituted
the main pillar of KIPRED.s activities. A number of western educated
academics who had been contemplating and having long talks to constitute
such an institute have found space for their values and intellectual
capacity here today. A year from the outset, the activities and findings
of KIPRED to date have reaffirmed and amplified the initial hypotheses o?n
the necessity to conduct intensive work in this field.

INDIVIDUAL ADVANCED RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM (IARO)
Deadline: November 1, 2003
Grants of up to $40,000 for up to nine months to US scholars for research in the social sciences and humanities in Europe and Eurasia. Applicants can choose from fellowships in policy research and development or fellowships in the humanities. Limited funding is available for cross-regional research in Mongolia, Iran, and Turkey for humanities scholars. Grants of one to three months are available to master's students for research on policy-relevant theses or equivalent projects.

THE CAUCASUS REGIONAL POLICY SYMPOSIUM

JOHN J. AND NANCY LEE ROBERTS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

A single grant of up to $30,000 for research projects lasting up to 12 months. This program supports research for scholars with PhD or equivalent terminal degrees. The Open Society Institute (OSI), a private operating and grantmaking
foundation based in New York City, implements a range of initiatives to
promote open society by shaping government policy and supporting
education, media, public health, and human and women's rights, as well
as social, legal, and economic reform.  To foster open society on a
global level, OSI aims to bring together a larger Open Society Network
of other nongovernmental organizations, international institutions, and
government agencies.  OSI was created in 1993 by investor and
philanthropist George Soros to support his foundations in Central and
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.  Those foundations were
established, starting in 1984, to help former communist countries in
their transition to democracy.  OSI has expanded the activities of the
Soros foundations network to other areas of the world where the
transition to democracy is of particular concern.  The network
encompasses more than 50 countries with initiatives in Africa, Central
Asia and the Caucasus, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, as well as in

Would anyone know the address of the tekke (Sufi meeting house) of Sheikh Xhemali Shehu from Albania? He was the main pre-war dervish in Yugoslavia. He is a Sheikh of the Rifa'i Sufi Order. The last time I saw him and his group, they were in Staten Island. Inshallah, I would like to re-establish my contact with them.
