Background: The Lucent Global Science Scholars Program identifies and rewards the academic excellence of 30 graduating high school seniors in the U.S. and 30 college undergraduates from 17 countries around the world. Lucent Global Science Scholars (Scholars) represent the next generation of Information Technology leaders. Scholars receive a financial award and the opportunity to attend the Lucent Global Science Scholars Global Summit. The Global Summit takes place from July 19-25 at Lucent Technologies headquarters in Murray Hill, NJ. Here's Where You Come In - We are seeking applications from someone who: 1) Is available to work full days and be based in a NJ hotel from July 19-24; 2) Has obtained an undergraduate degree and work experience; graduate degree students are encouraged to apply; 3) Is interested in either international affairs, international education, secondary education, international development, physical sciences, computer science and/or related fields; 4) Is interested in working with academically gifted youth from the US and abroad who are embarking upon or currently pursuing undergraduate degrees; 5) Has cross-cultural sensitivity; 6) Will be available to attend Coordinator orientation sessions (1 or 2 meetings this summer); 7) It is a bonus if you speak a foreign language, enjoy international travel, have studied or worked abroad and/or work in secondary education. The Job: Coordinators will be responsible for activities including but not limited to: 1) Overseeing the health and welfare of designated groups of students (cross-cultural adjustment, assisting with orientation, etc.); 2) Serving as authority figure, conveying and ensuring compliance with Global Summit rules; 3) Providing logistical assistance: a. Providing schedule information to students; b. Ensuring students adhere to program schedule; c. Escorting group(s) of students to and from Newark Airport in NJ and the hotel in Long Branch, NJ (you don't need to provide transportation); 4) Accompanying students during Global Summit activities (tours of Bell Labs, beach party, etc.); 5) Accompany group for a day in NYC including leading a 3-hour tour. Lucent Program Compensation: $200/day. Lodging at the Hamilton Park Hotel in Florham Park, NJ and most meals included.
