List: NYC-L[NYC-L] Request for Volunteer InterpretersDiane_Curran at ksg.harvard.edu Diane_Curran at ksg.harvard.eduSun Feb 3 15:10:45 EST 2002
To all speakers of Albanian: I write to ask for your assistance in locating volunteer Albanian interpreters in the New York area for brief interviews with asylum-seekers. I am a fellow working under the auspices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on a study of U.S. immigration procedures. As part of this study, I am interviewing individual asylum-seekers who are seeking admission to the U.S., and who are subject to "expedited removal" procedures. In New York, most of these individuals are detained at an immigration detention facility in Queens. There are now three Albanian-speakers whom I would like to interview. My schedule is quite flexible, and I can work to accomodate the schedule of any volunteers who may be available next week (week of February 4), or in the coming weeks. Each interview should take only 1-2 hours. The interpreter may come in person to the facility in Queens, or I can arrange for a telephone connection. Because funding is so limited, unfortunately, I need to ask for volunteers. However, I will be able to arrange to reimburse transportation costs, if necessary. I can be reached on my cell phone at (203) 232-7022, or by e-mail. Thank you very much for your assistance. Sincerely, Diane Curran
