All Albanian Prisoners In Serbs Jail Must Return to Kosova, says Nekibe Kelmendi April 25, 2001 PRISHTINA (KosovaLive)- The freeing of Albanian prisoners from Serb jails is an act of contrition by the Serb judicial system, said an official from Justice Department of Kosova. "Though late in freeing the 143 prisoners from Gjakova, this is an act of contrition by the Serb court for holding them so long in prison," said the Co-Head of the Justice Department, Nekibe Kelmendi, for KosovaLive. She said that their release was not freedom from prison but the returning of hostages to their homes. Some 281 Albanians are still in Serb jails, while the fate of 3,525 persons is unknown. Residents of Kodra e Minatoreve in Mitrovica say They Live under House Arrest April 25, 2001 MITROVICA (KosovaLive) - The Organizational Committee of the Kodra e Trimave Albanian neighborhood in northern Mitrovica said Wednesday that residents are under a complete blockade, which resembles house arrest. According to the Committee, life under current conditions is very difficult, as the neighborhood is separated from all normal flows of traffic. The situation is very serious because public transportation is not functioning and residents cannot get to the southern part of the city. Workers are unable to go to work, students to school in southern Mitrovica, and the ill to obtain medical assistance. There is no way out even for people in need of emergency medical treatment because no one is able to take them to the other side of the city. The life of the Albanian residents of the neighborhood is also difficult due to the problem of basic food supplies. There is only one shop, which is already empty and cannot be restocked because of blockades on the roads. Even humanitarian organizations have been unable to deliver food for the last two and a half months. The Albanian neighborhood committee appealed to all humanitarian organizations and donors to help provide basic foodstuffs. (hm)
