Call for Papers


Deadline for Abstracts: November 19, 1999

Following the success of last year's workshop, the Kokkalis Program at the
John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Southeast Europe Study
Group at Harvard's Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies are
organizing the second Graduate Student Workshop on Southeastern Europe.

Papers by graduate students in the humanities, history, philosophy, the
social
and political sciences, and international relations are invited. The papers
can be
related to Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece,
Hungary, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Romania,
Slovenia, Turkey and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Contributions that
treat these countries singly or in a comparative context are both welcome.
Papers that seek to question or re-interpret old approaches to the area of
Southeastern Europe are particularly encouraged. Limited travel funding is
available.

The deadline for participation is November 19, 1999. Applicants should
submit their abstract of the paper they plan to present, a brief resume,
and
