From krenar at juno.com Sat Oct 15 13:43:35 2005 From: krenar at juno.com (krenar at juno.com) Date: Sat, 15 Oct 2005 13:43:35 -0400 Subject: [ALBSA-Info] Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship For New Americans seeks Albanian applicants Message-ID: <20051015.134340.45028.5.krenar@juno.com> From: Adnan Derti The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans is actively seeking Albanian candidates. The deadline is November 1, so please broadcast urgently (my fault, not theirs). The fellowship provides two years of support (full stipend plus half tuition) for graduate school (science, law, medicine, art, architecture, music etc.). Applicants must be enrolled in graduate school or attending next year, must be US citizens or legal residents (i.e., green card holders), and must be immigrants or children of immigrants. The fellowship is awarded to candidates with unusual accomplishments for their given circumstances. Besides the funding, the fellowship is a fantastic experience and involves many excellent dinners. Fellows gather in New York annually and are visited at their universities by the directors of the fellowship, who are deeply committed to the intellectual development of the fellows. For example, the fellows at this fall's conference will meet Samantha Power, Jhumpa Lahiri and Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh. Fellows meet with New Americans as diverse as Yo-Yo Ma and Nobel laureate Torsten Weisel, and are exposed to the cultural richness of New York, from a private tour of the Met with its director to theater to opera. Paul is the brother of George Soros. While George concentrated on initiatives abroad, Paul and Daisy established the fellowship as a response to an anti-immigration wave in the 1990's.
