  Albania- IOM Opens Migrant Assistance Centre

 

The IOM office in Tirana has opened a new Migrant Assistance Centre in Tirana. This centre, the first of its kind in Albania was inaugurated in the presence of embassy officials from a number of Western European countries. 

The Migrant Assistance Centre will act as a ‘one stop shop’ for actual and potential migrants wishing to legally emigrate from Albania, as well as those who wish to return and reintegrate back into Albanian society. 

The Center’s objectives are threefold: 

   To provide accurate and free information to Albanian migrants in order to assist them to make an informed decision about legal possibilities for migration, 
   To assist consular authorities by offering pre-consular services to migrants, 
   To thwart the illegal activities of smugglers and traffickers who promote irregular migration.

The centre will offer services to migrants, from documentation for visa application as part of a pre-consular package, to publications on how to migrate legally to Western European countries and information on the pitfalls of irregular migration. A telephone hotline will also provide information on possibilities for regular migration and on educational and retraining opportunities for those migrants returning to Albania.
