As the United States marks the 60th anniversary of its entry into World War II in 2001, the living memories of the generation that experienced the war are slipping into history. At the same time, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of that generation are growing up without any real sense of what life was like during the war -- on the battlefronts and on the home front. CNN.com invites our readers who lived through World War II to submit their personal remembrances of the war years. Your written accounts will become part of an archive of World War II memories. Tell us in your own words what the war years mean to you. It is important, of course, to remember the sacrifices of the young men and women who fought and died. But later generations should also know about the laughter and the tears on the home front, about gasoline and food rationing, travel restrictions, wage and price controls, forced displacements, about the value of radio broadcasts, newspaper reports and writing letters, about the G.I. Bill and readjusting to civilian life. Perhaps most of all, later generations should appreciate the extraordinary sense of national purpose the country experienced and has rarely known since. We also are interested if you would like to share with us your memorabilia -- photographs, movies, tape recordings, pamphlets, posters, telegrams, ration books, unit patches, letters to loved ones -- anything that can be reproduced photographically or electronically. Send us a brief description of your materials along with your stories and we will let you know whether we can include them on the Web site. We expect to launch the site in April 2001 and add to it through December 7, 2001. Click here for a printable version. Please send your e-mails to: memories at cnn.com Or send by regular mail to: Memories, CNN Interactive, 11th Floor SW One CNN Center, Atlanta, Ga. 30303 Note: Only those entries accompanied by a home address, a daytime phone number, and an e-mail address (if any) will be considered. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
