List: ALBSA-Info[ALBSA-Info] Conference in San Franciscoaalibali at law.harvard.edu aalibali at law.harvard.eduMon Jan 22 15:47:55 EST 2001
From: Florin Curta <fcurta at h...> Date: Wed Jan 17, 2001 5:16pm Subject: CfP: Ethnicity and Medieval Frontiers Panel, San Francisco, January 2002 Dear list members: The 116th American Historical Association annual meeting will be held in San Francisco, between January 3 and 6, 2002. The 2002 conference theme will be "Frontiers." I plan to organize a panel on ethnicity and medieval frontiers. Ethnicity was often defined as the political construction of cultural difference. However, the relation between medieval ethnicity and such salient political features as frontiers has only recently received scholarly attention. My intention with this session is to illuminate some of the most interesting aspects of recent research in this direction, such as the role of frontiers in ethnogenesis, the economic and religious dimensions of ethnic boundaries, or the re-consideration of the concept of frontier in Late Roman and Islamic history. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit an abstract before February 7 to the address below or at the e-mail address provided. I also posted this information on the AHA 2002 panel locator database (http://www.theaha.org/annual/panels/). Thank you, Florin Curta _____________________________________________________________ Florin Curta Department of History College of Liberal Arts and Sciences University of Florida 4411 Turlington Hall P.O.
