Albanian children sold into sex slavery-charity

LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - Thousands of Albanian children and young women are being sold into sex slavery across Europe, a children's charity said on Thursday. 
London-based Save the Children said in a report that at least 60 percent of the Albanians trafficked are children abducted or tricked into prostitution. It estimated that there are 15,000 Albanian prostitutes in Italy alone, many unpaid. 

"Urgent action is required to combat the poverty, lack of opportunity and poor education that blight rural Albania. As long as the current economic conditions prevail and the rewards remain high, trafficking will remain a tempting option," the charity said in a statement. 

Save the Children said in some rural areas of Albania the problem is so great that up to 90 percent of girls over the age of 14 skip school because they fear they will be kidnapped.
