Rugova's Supporters Miffed at Snub from EU-Balkans Summit

GENEVA, Nov 20, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) An aide to Ibrahim Rugova
criticized European leaders Monday for not inviting the Kosovo Albanian
leader to a Balkans summit later this week.
     Edita Tahiri of the Kosovo Democratic League also said that
governments were too quick to embrace new Yugoslav President Vojislav
Kostunica, who she said had yet to show that he was taking a new
approach to Kosovo.
     "Mr. Rugova should have been invited to the Zagreb summit," Tahiri,
Rugova's foreign policy adviser, told journalists here.
     European leaders are convening in Zagreb on Friday for the summit
that is expected to intensify steps to bring Yugoslavia, under the new
leadership of Kostunica, into the fold.
     The Kosovo Democratic League won the lion's share of votes in
municipal elections held in Kosovo on October 28.
