I fully support this initiative and have great admiration for the peaceful action the
Kosovar have undertaken to get back their school and university premises from the Serbian
occupation. My husband, a Kosovar from Zhiti, and I will go to Bonn, Germany on the 4th of

oppression. I wish you the best, and I strongly urge all supporters to gain the attention

Thank you for keeping us informed through this wonderful page. The Albanian students of
Kosova are demonstrating for a just cause. Albanians throughout the Balkans are being
oppressed while all that is possible is being done to prevent them from quenching their
natural thirst for knowledge , because they know their talents and fear their development.
In NY Albanians students with other associations will demonstrate in front of United
Nations in solidarity with you. The day must come when Albanians will be free of
oppression. May God protect you from harm. Respectfully Nicolas Alempijevic

Dear fellow students, Many students in Belgrade support your cause. Some of us Serbs do
not want to live in a country which segregates its citizens. Unfortunately, the regime
here is as oppressive to democratic ideas from us Serbs as it is to those from you
Albanians. Young people here hope to see a new government in future, one which will accept
the realities of life and treat the Albanians of Kosovo just as every other citizen. Our
protest was corrupted by politicians. Do not let any politician interfere with your
justified protest. Keep us informed. jedan.beogradjanin@usa.net Good luck

DEKLARATE E LIDERIT TE PD, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha Sot, ne rruget e Prishtines, studente,
gjakftohtesi dhe me kurajo te shmangin pershkallezimin e dhunes.
reagimin e mbare kombit shqiptar dhe qe do te kishte per pasoje nje konflikt ballkanik me
rrjedhoja tragjike dhe te paparashikueshme per Ballkanin dhe me gjere.

Dear friends,
With admiration and anxiety I am following the events in Kosova - admiration for your
courage, anxiety for your and Kosova's fate. I assure you, there are many people in
Switzerland who feel the same like I do and who wish they could give you more than just
moral support. My best wishes and my thoughts are with you Suzanne Auer, Bern/Switzerland
P.S. The Swiss evening news on TV reported tonight about your courageous protest which is
a rare event, because usually they do not cover Kosova too well. The main headline all
evening long on Euronews TV was also your protests. This might be a sign for you that
Europe does not forget about you!

Full support for heroic students of Kosova My heart goes out for the heroic students of
Kosova, beaten up today in the most barbaric way by the serb police. Brothers, may God
heal your wounds and ease your pain. Today's events show once more that only when Kosova
will be free from the occupators, the people of Kosova will fully regain their rights,
human and national. Serbia has totaly failed to provide to the habitants of Kosova even a
glimpse of a livable life. Not only the children of Kosova can't learn in their language,
but in the most brutal way albanians are harrassed non stop 24/7, humiliated on a daily
bases, barbarily beaten up by the serb police that outperform in its duties even the nazi
Gestapo. As Prof. Qosja puts it albanians in Yugoslavia are a nation under arrest and the
situation is unbearable any more!!! SERB OCCUPATORS OUT OF KOSOVA. Today, as in the last
two decades, we've learned that you can't deal in a civilized manner with the beasts. The
only option left open for albanians is to join en masse the UCK, and throw once and
forever the serbian vampire off their neck. If not us, who? If not now, when? Regards to

Tė dashur student!
Ju jap perkrahje tė plota pėr inicjativen e organizimit tė protestave ndaj mbulljes s
shkollave. Po ashtu edhe studenta tė tjerė qe kam biseduar ketu nė shkollė ju
perkrahin pergjithsisht. Andaj unė bashku me
shqiptaret nė mergim kemi njė bindje se do tė arrihet dicka nė qoft se vazhdohet me
protesta. Jam shumė i
zhgenjyar ndaj qendrimit tė udheqsit tan tė LDK. Nuk mundem tė kuptoj qendrimet e tyre
pė shtyrjen e
protestes.
Me aktivitetin e LDK jam poashtu shumė i knaqur, sepse njė qendrim duhet tė ket njė
udheqsi per ardhmerin e popullit nė tėrsi, jo vetem studentve.
Natyrisht se kemi shumė pak perkrahje ndaj botes perindimore , mirpo njeriu duhet t gjej
rrugdalje tjeter.
Njera prej tyre ėshtė tė ngritje populli nė protest e pasraj thirrje tė shteteve per
marrveshje(psh.thirrje njė delegacjon prej skandinavisė.)
Keto ishin vetem disa prej sugjerimeve tė mija nė njė gjendje kautike qė ėshtė e
udhequr prej atyre qė me
shtė humbur besimi, perkatsisht LDK-sė.

The Serbian government should be condenmed by all the world powers.Since 1981 the Albanian
people in Kosova have been fighting for their right of independence.Kosova has a right to
be independent republic like Montenegro,Bosnia,Croatia and Macedonia from their Serbian

May the Conflict Cease Dear All, I hope that the process of peacefull means of protest
continues as a model of Kosovars to the Balkans on how to achieve goals. These goals may
not be quick in coming but peacefully gained goals are more longlsting as they work the
peace rather than breed revenge. The wisdom of the peaceloving Kosovars is a model for all
of us. The road has been long, but the way of violence is never the answer. And those who
use violence against what is right show they are wrong. May you be strong in your

Come On Students of Kosova!
You are asking for knowledge, which is light for the dark medieval regime of Serbia. You
are demanding freedom, to unchain the last dictatorship of the legendary Balkan. You are
once again showing peace and civilization against a monstrous devil that spreads fright

Your peaceful protest held recently in Pristiina undoubtedly is one of the largest
demonstrations to date. I am sure these demonstrations will give warning to Serbia and
their worthless leader Miloshevich. Your ability to stage such a perfect demonstration for
your rights speaks highly of Albanian integrity and the desire to live in peace with their
neighbors.
We sons and daughters of Albanian Americans in Texas wolud like to send a message of
support to all our brothers and sisters back home. Just like you, we are too aware of the
struggle that the Republic of Kosova and Kosovars are going through. We must work together
to inform all peace-loving nations of the world that Serbia is responsible for the war,
devastation, and destruction of many Balkan countries. Miloshevich and his
Chetnik-Communist government must be held accountable, and for this we support all your
struggles for independence.
I pray to God that my government, here in the U.S.A., which is a beacon of democracy in
the world will not close their eyes to ignore requests of more than 10 million Albanians
around the world. Serbo-Chetniks can pretend to win over Albanians by showing police and
army power in Kosova but the reality is different. Albanians will win.
The University of Pristina will always be an institution and property of the people of the
Republic of Kosova. Lets make the organization of the University of Pristina an
example for other institutions in Kosova, and lead the way to freedom. I am sure that just
like you, the leaders of Kosova today are spending many sleepless nights searching for a
solution to the problem imposed on all of us by Serbs. We will pray for our leaders, and
hope that their minds and hearts will always be clear and strong. We pray that our
leaderes will be able to have our beliefs for the Republic of Kosova in their hearts and
have the courage to fight for it.
In conclusion, please allow me, on behalf of all your brothers and sisters in Texas, to
show my support in your struggle. Even though we are far apart we constantly think of you,
and the tremendous feats you are trying to achieve. May God bless the United States of
America. May God bless the Republic of Kosova, and show us the way to freedom and
independence.
With sincere love,

Dear Kosovar Students,
YOUR THOUGHTFUL MOVE TO PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS FOR FREEDOM IN YUOR OWN HOME (THE MAIN
PLACE OF THE ANCIENT ILLYRIAN-ALBANIAN CULTURE AND RELIGION) IS A SMART THING IN THIS
SITUATION.
DIFFERENT SEGMENTS OF INTERNATIONAL GROUPS AND LOBBIES WHO PUT ALBANIA IN CIVIL WAR TO
BRING REGRESIVE/ANTIALBANIAN/ANTIDEMOCRATIC/ TOTALITARIAN FORCES IN POWER TODAY IN
ALBANIA, ARE KIPPING QUIET ABOUT THE ERUPTION IN KOSOVA. YOU SEE NOTHING IS GIVEN TO NEW
YORK TIMES FOR THESE DEMONSTRATIONS IN KOSOVA, TIRANA, ATHENS, ETC.(WHERE IS MS.JANE
PERLEZ WHO WAS EAGER TO SLANDER EVERYDAY ON ALBANIA IN FRONTPAGE OF NYT DURING THE
TURMOIL?!), NOTHING IN CNN!?. SOMEDODY WHO CONSPIRED THERE SLANDERING THE WORLD DURING THE
TURMOIL IN ALBANIA FOR THE REAL CAUSES OF THE TURMOIL, DOESNT WANT NOW THE WORLD TO
SEE THAT ALBANIAN PEOPLE DOESNT REALLY WANT THE HIDDEN DICTATORIAL REGIME THEY
PROMOTED TO INSTALL IN ALBANIA. IF THE WORLD WILL FULLY BE AWARE THAT THE ENVY OF THE
NEIGHBOURS (FOR THE FAST DEVELOPMENT OF ALBANIA AND EXTRAORDINARY INTELLECTUAL
CAPABILITIES OF ALBANIAN PEOPLE WHICH BROUGH ALBANIA DURING THE LAST 5 YEARS ALMOST AT THE
TOP OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL COUTRIES IN ADAPTING THE FREE-MARKET REFORMS AND DEMOCRACY) AND
THE DEMONIAC CONSPIRACY OF SEVERAL INTERNATIONAL LOBBIES WHICH HAVE BEEN SLANDERING ALL
THE TIME DURING THAT TIME AND BROUGH ALBANIA IN A DICTATORIAL REGIME (NOT A
DEMOCRATIC ONE AS WAS PROMOTED BY THE ABOVE), THE WORLD WILL REALLY QUESTION IN THIS
CENTURY THAT WHAT REALLY THESE FORCES REPRESENT INDEED IN A BROADER CONTEST. THE ALBANIAN
QUESTION WILL BE A BREAKTHROUGH THAN FOR THE WORLD TO KNOW WITH WHAT IT IS DEALING WITH:
WITH DEMOCRATIC AND PROGRESSIVE ANTI TOTALITARIAN FORCES, OR WITH DEMONIAC FORCES WHO WANT
TO BUILD THEIR PROSPERITY BY DESTROYING IN A SOPHISTICATED WAY THE CIVILIZATION OF OTHERS
REGARDLESS WHAT REGIME IS COMING TO, AND BY ABUSING JESUS CHRIST FOR DEMONIAC THINGS NEVER
SUPPORTED BY CHRIST. IF THIS WILL BE THE CASE THAN ALL THESE FORCES AND PERSONS MIGHT HAVE
TO CONFESS BACK FOR WHAT THEY CAUSED IN ALBANIA, AT LEAST 2, 000 INNOCENT PEOPLE BRUTALLY
KILLED BY GANDS (AND HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS KEPT SILENT!!!) AND 600 MILLION DOLLARS DEMAGE AT
ALL. ANGELA HASSANE SHOULD KNOW THAT PRETTY WELL SINCE SHE PROMOTED THESE FORCES BY
SLANDERING IN ALBANIA DURING THAT TIME. IT IS SURPRISING SHE IS HELPING KNOW
KOSOVAR STUDENTS. PROBABLY SHE IS HELPING AND AT THE SAME TIME DOING ANOTHER
UNDECLARED JOB AS BEFORE DURING THE RECENT TURMOIL IN ALBANIA. WE ALSO DONT WANT
GREEK SCHOOL IN TIRANA, THERE ARE NO GREEKS THERE. IF ANY FOREIGN SCHOOL SHOULD BE ALLOWED
IN ALBANIA THIS SHOULD BE A WESTERN NORTHERN EUROPIAN SCHOOL FROM WHICH ALBANIANS MIGHT
HAVE MUCH TO LEARN FROM, AND NOT FROM GREECE WHICH EVEN DOESNT MEET EU STANDARDS BUT
IS ALLOWED TO JOIN EU AND NATO FOR MILITARY AND SECURITY REASONS OF NATO IN SOUTHERN
EUROPE. WE ALSO WANT SCHOOLS IN CHAMERIA ALIAS ALBANIAN SOUTHERN EPIR, WE WANT THE
ALBANIAN UNIVERSITY OF JANINA AS OUR REINASSANCE MEN HAVE FORESEEN. WE WANT THE UNIVERSITY
OF TETOVA, REGARDLESS THE SLANDERS OF MACEDONIANS THAT IF THIS UNIVERSITY WILL BE GRANTED
IT WILL HAVE THE POOREST QUALITY IN MACEDONIA; THEY PROBABLY FEAR OTHERWISE,
THAT UNIVERSITY OF TETOVA WILL HAVE THE BEST QUALITY IN MACEDONIA, AND THIS WILL TELL THE
WORLD WHO ALBANIANS REALLY ARE AS A NATION AND RACE IN BALKANS. WE WANT A PROMINENT
ALBANIAN AT THE HEAD OF THE INDEPENDENT ALBANIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH (REGARDLESS WAHT
COSTANDINOPOL THINGS ABOUT THAT), WE WANT ALBANIAN LAND GIVEN TO THE SO CALLED GREEK
MINORITY IN ALBANIA, BACK TO ALBANIAN EXPROPRIATED OWNERS. WE WANT THE ILLYRIANISM BE THE
FUTURE RELIGION OF ALBANIANS (HYJNIA IS THE FIRST GOD THAT ILLYRIANS HAVE BEEN
RECOGNIZING ACCORDING TO ALBANIAN ANCIENT BOOKS AND FOLKLORE).
GO AHEAD STUDENTS!

I am American and live in California. I have been following your struggle very closely and
I just want you to know how much respect I have for all of you, fighting peaceably to
achieve your goals. I know, here in America, we do not have to overcome such obstacles and
I know the day will come when you will enjoy that very same comfort. You ARE making such a
difference for yourselves and generations to come, by speaking out and continuing to fight
back with your minds. It would be such a horrible tragedy to lose a single life when your
minds can overcome any obstacle that comes before you. I have written a letter to
President Clinton and every appropriate government agency here, urging continued support
of your struggle and that the U.S. play a more active role in the situation in Kosova. I
wish there was something more we could do to assist you.. My thoughts are with all of you
and I know it doesn't make a huge difference, but I will continue to do anything I can to
support your battle for freedom. There are many Americans who support you. We tend to take
our lives for granted here and, I, as well as many others pray that you will enjoy the
same freedoms we do... VERY SOON. Good Luck to you and be proud that you are achieving,
even if slowly, freedom for yourselves.
As an Albanian-American from Macedonia I give my full and concerning support to the
Albanian students in Kosova. Their plead for education is certinly not going unheard of by
Albanian students in America. As a combined Albanian community we will take every effort
possible to make your cries heard in all parts of the civalized world. We are behind you
100%. If only there was a way we could all join in your struggle. As for the brutilizing
Serbian authorities we let you know now that the Kosova students are not alone and that
your incriminating government is showing signs of fatigue and weakness. We Albanians of
America and Albanians around the world show paroumount support for our Albanian brothers
and sisters. We will go on fighting together to the very end. "BASHKIMI BON

Dear Jan & Sandra Harder, You gave a good answer to the Serbian student. Indeed in
Canada there Universities in English and in French. But It good to correct also THAT
SERBIANS HAVE NOT BEEN MORE IN NUBER THAN ALBANIANS AFTER THE WWII. This legend is spread
by Serbians themselves, by blowing their own horn. AT THE END OF THE WWII ALBANIANS WERE
MUCH MORE THAN SERBIANS IN NUMBER, EVEN MORE THAN TODAY. ALBANIANS HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE IN
WWI, AND MUCH MORE UP TO NISH EARLIER.

Pristina, Kosova October 6, 1997
Dear Friends,
Following is a slightly revised version of my report on the demonstration in Pristina last
week. Please use this version if you publish it or otherwise share it further. Thanks for
helping spread the word. Massive Nonviolent Protest in Kosova
By David Hartsough
On October 1 in Pristina, Kosova, in southern ex-Yugoslavia, about 20,000 students and
faculty marched in peaceful protest (along with 80,000 supporters along the planned route
of the march) demanding that the university which has been closed to Albanian students for
seven years be reopened to all students - Albanian as well as Serbian. They are declaring
that education is a human right and demand that ethnic Albanian students in Kosova have a
right to go to the University of Kosova and learn in the Albanian language and should not
be discriminated against because of their nationality.
Background - Kosova, an autonomous region in former Yugoslavia, has about 2 million
people, about
90% Albanians and 10% Serbs and Turkish. In 1989 the Serbian government unilaterally
abolished the 1974 Yugoslav constitution which granted autonomy to Kosova, abolished the
Kosova parlament, and fired 80% of the Albanian people from government jobs and closed
almost all schools from the primary level through the university to the Albanian
population when the Albanians refused to accept a pledge of allegiance to the Serbian
state and the shift to the Serbian curriculum and all classes only in the Serbian
language.
Many people call the situation in Kosova worse than apartheid and an
explosion waiting to happen. All political power and most economic power is
held by the Serbs and the Albanian majority are treated as tenth class citizens. There
have been serious and ongoing human rights abuses against the Albanian people the past
seven years.
Faced with this repressive situation, the Albanians have engaged in very broad based
passive nonviolent
non-cooperation with the Serbian regime. They have created their own parallel schools and
university which operate in private homes on shoe-string budgets, have organized hundreds
of Mother Theresa medical clinics, and have even organized a parallel government. A year
ago an agreement was signed by Milosevic, then President of Serbia and Rugova, the
President of the parallel government of Kosova, which provided for the unconditional
return of Albanian students and teachers to schools in Kosova. After thirteen months of
absolutely no movement toward implementation of this agreement, the students of the
university decided that they had waited long enough and with tremendous courage, organized
a large nonviolent demonstration October 1 calling for implementation of the school
agreement. All the students in the demonstration wore white shirts with the university
emblem on the front. They walked with dignity and were totally committed to a peaceful and
nonviolent demonstration. Unfortunately, the Serb police, armed with automatic
Kalashnikovs and accompanied by armoured personnel carriers with tear gas cannons and
water cannons, blocked the march after ten minutes. Facing the machine guns and police in
riot gear, the 20,000 students stood silently and courgeously in a dignified and peaceful
manner - armed only with flowers and banners calling for a reopening of their university.
After an hour and without warning, the police violently attacked the demonstrators, beat
up and arrested the leaders of the independent student union and the Rector of the
parallel univeristy which has been operating out of private homes the past six years. The
police fired tear gas into the demonstration and into the thousands of supporters who
lined the road and were observing on the hillsides overlooking the demonstration.
There had been absolutely no provocation by the students. The contrast between the quiet,
but powerful
nonviolence of the students and the violence and brutal attack by the police was
overwhelming. It reminded me of the march in Selma Alabama in 1965 where the police
mercilously attacked and beat up nonviolent black marchers who were demanding the right to
vote in the United States. Students are hopeful that when the world hears of this violent
attack on their peaceful demonstration, that they will demand that this brutal oppression
stop in Kosova and that the schools and the university be reopened to all students in
Kosova.
Similar large nonviolent demonstrations by students and others took place in six other
cities across Kosova October 1 and in most of the cities the police behaved in a similar
violent manner to the police in Pristina, the capital. Unfortunately in Pristina and in
other cities across Kosova the police spent most of the rest of the day patrolling
downtown and the neighborhoods firing tear gas indiscriminately at and attacking common
people. In just one Mother Theresa medical center (of eight in Pristina) there were 27
people with serious injuries from police attacks including open wounds on the head, broken
ribs, and faces black and blue from police billy clubs. (Over 160 students were injured in
the attacks and treated in the Mother Theresa clinics. Tear gas was also fired into at
least one primary school courtyard forcing the school to close.
The students have returned to regular classes at the parallel university Oct. 2 and plan
to continue their peaceful call for opening of the university to all students in the
coming days and weeks. The mood of the students and demonstrators was not one of defeat,
but of victory. The students had manifested the first positive and strong indication of
how the Albanian people in Kosova feel since 1992. They had tremendous discipline and the
students and others remained quiet, peaceful and dignified in spite of the police
violence. The students have had enough of waiting and have found the courage to powerfully
and nonviolently act to achieve justice and dignity for themselves and their people.

Dear brothers and sisters. We fully admire your courage for steping up for your rights. We
feel very bad that we can't be part of your uprising, fizically. But, we will continue to
do everything in our power to promote diplomatic or military involment of the United
States. We were able to give vizual presentations about Kosova to the American Students of
the state of Maine. We hope that people we've talked to or those that we'll meet in the
future will take the initiative to write to the govermental officials and "demand EU
Action in Kosova" (something Danish Students are also trying to do). We wish you all
good luck, and hope we'll get our schools back. Sincerely yours, Driton (18) & Luan
