COMMUNIQUE
The Protests Council of the University of Prishtina considers that despite the efforts of
the Serbian police, which used all means to disperse peaceful protests, the Protest Hour
of the December,30 1997 was very successful and effective. As the previous protests, the
Protest Hour terrified the occupator and the occupying policy of the regime, despite the
fact that it was peaceful and nonviolent. The protestors were holding a book and a sheet
of paper with the Protest Declaration, which included the main principles for achieving
the elementary aims for unconditional release of the university buildings and premises in
peaceful nonviolent protests. The way the occupator reacted shows how much he was
terrified by the book, peaceful students' demands and the University as a major
institution of the Republic of Kosova. The book and the Protest Declaration with the
elementary demands for free university is the most remarkable expression of the students'
pledge for the continuation of the peaceful protests until the fulfillment of their
demands. The Protests Council expresses its gratitude to students of the University of
Prishtina, for their readiness and determination, for massive participation despite the
difficult conditions, for the shown culture and dignity, for the remarkable message that
was spread out all around the world, but above all for the message they gave to the
medieval occupator, that exercises unseen violence. The Protest Council also wants to
express gratitude to professors and the other participants that glorified the Protest
Hour.Thanking the students once more, the Protest Council, being convinced that the coming
year will be more successful, wishes all the best in the New Year.The Protest Council |
