THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SENT THE ALBANIAN PEOPLE MESSAGES OF SUPPORT. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

--

hi, my name is tal, and i'm an artist living in israel.
it's terrible to hear about the war in kosova and about the albanin genoside.
we know stories from the holocaust and these stories sound so similar, i'm afraid.
there is little private people can do but sometimes someone finds a way to make a change, like using the possibilities of the internet, letting more people around the world know what's happening.
I think my opportunity to make a change just came, and I wonder if you could help me. there is going to be a very big group exhibition in Rome, opening in two weeks.
This exhibition is the 9th biennial for young artists from the Mediterranean countries.
Over 1000 artists from Albania, Algeria, Bosnia, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Macedonian, morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Slovenia,   Spain, s. Marino, Tunisia, turkey, Finland, Germany, great Britain, Hungary and Sweden Will participate in the exhibition. It is a very important and highly communicated exhibition.
I will also be among the artists showing their art in the exhibition.
I wanted to use the great exposure of the exhibition to bring the issue of the Albanian/kosova war into discussion using stories of people who ran away, forced to be refugees, from their homes.   I couldn't reach Albanians in Israel, because they are highly protected in here, I suppose.  however I wouldn't want to give up on the opportunity to send the stories  of the Albanians.
what I need is the story of people who had to run away or just leave their home because of war. there will be other stories of other refugees from other wars or situations, like the stories of Palestinian refugees.
I am focusing on the suitcase or bags or sacs that those people brought with them from home.
what did they take? what was left behind? did they take just clothes or some sentimental objects, books, photos, souvenirs...?
I ask these questions and then I take a picture of them, or of the suitcase, or of something that they brought. maybe you could help me with this project? maybe you could think about your story, and think about a picture of you or something you brought with you ?
sorry for the long letter, waiting for reply, yours

Hello;

I am writing from Calgary.  I read this morning that refugees are arriving
in our city.  Will there be a need for housing for short periods of time
until they find homes of their own?   What are other ways our family could
be help to them?  We are not in the position to aide them financially
however our time is available.  Thank you.

Sincerely,  Sherry Barron-Gaudette

Bonjour,

Letter to Jesse Jackson:

Dear Reverend Jackson,

Your visit to Belgrade was a bittersweet one. I was delighted to see the
three young soldiers allowed to leave Serb prison under trumped-up charges
and head home to their families.

But I was shocked by your suggestion that we then, in turn, suspend bombing
of Serbia without ever once mentioning that they should suspend military
operations in  Kosova! Nor did your itinerary include a visit to the camps in
Albania or Macedonia or a trip to Prishtine, where the democratic leaders of
the Kosovar society try to carry on in mortal danger of either starvation or
beating and imprisonment.

In particular, at about the same time you obtained the release of the
soldiers, you ignored the plight of a courageous Albanian student, Albin
Kurti. In 1998, Albin and the students of the University of Prishtine, stood
up to the Serb military, unarmed in a policy of non-violence based on the
methods of Martin Luther King, in an effort to regain the right to use their
schools. In their use of King's methods, they hoped to reach out to Western
leaders like you.

Kurti, his father, and two younger brothers were arrested April 28 in
Prishtine in what eye witnesses call an "extremely abusive manner." They were
taken to prison. Albin's fifteen year old brother was released after a
beating. The rest have not been heard of since. They have, perhaps, been
executed.

Your advocacy in this manner could restore your image as a fair-minded leader
of the oppressed. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Alice Mead

Hi!

Excuse that this is in English but I want to help the Kosovan refugees.

Some of them have begun to arrive in my area (Manchester, England) and I
want to help them contact any lost relatives via your site.  Can you send me
English language information so that I know how to do it.  Once I understand
I could tell them what you are doing and perhaps provide them with access to
my computer so that they could reply in their own language.

Greetings from Fred

I believe in NATO's mission.  I also belive that the free press is to busy
finding fault with NATO and their political leadership to do a fair job on
reporting on what is really going on in Kosovo.  Every now and then the press
will talk about killings or rape but that news is only good for a few
minutes.  But the brave Serbs in Serbia get special recognition for the
hardships they are going through.  I know the press isn't supposed to take
sides but I also thought that they would seek the truth on both sides of a
conflict.  Maybe they should look at how the Serbian press works, (as Slobo
says), and stop adding their byline to Slobos' Press Corps.  Good luck in
getting your homes and lives back, and I hope that there is a War Crimes
Tribunal called to investigate Slobo and his hench men.

Do you have any translated health information we could have for providing
care to Kosovo regugees?  They are arriving in our city next week and we
have no translated materials on immunizations, pregnancy, nutrition,
communicable diseases.

Thankyou, in advance...

I am interested in the well being of my Christian Brothers and Sisters in Kosovo.   As worshipers of Jehovah we are a neutral people and do not participate in war.   Our Leaders are Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. Revelations 21:3&4 of the Holy Scriptures tells of days when the tent of God will be with mankind and there will be no more death nor morning nor outcry nor ain for these things will have passed away    Until then we are praying for our Brothers & Sisters what ever their nationality may be.   Pat   Salem, Mo

My name is Doug Brooks.  I am the chairman of the PPR committee at
Prince of Peace United Methodist Church in Dale City, Virginia.  MY
church has decided to sponsor a family from Kosovo and we will be
receiving them in the next week or two.  We are looking for outside
donations to help us provide an apartment for this family.  Where would
be the best place for me to advertise this need?  Do you know of any
news groups or web pages where this could be done.

Also, do you have any information on web sites or persons who can assist
us in making contact with Albanian groups on the Washington D.C. area?

Thanks for any help,

Doug

Hi!
Your site is a very good source of information for all of us who want to know
the truth about whats taking place in Kosova.  I am myself from Bosnia and I
have been through what Kosovars are going through now (unfortunately).  We
are dying from the same knife from the same awful ideology that has dug a
grave for the wider Balkan area.  Serbian fascism must end and God willing it
will.  However, you must be strong and must stick together and the better
times will come.  Albanians are an example of national unity, because you do
not divide by the religion.  My prayers are with you and I hope that you will
become independent because you deserve it.  KLA is your only hope now and you
must nurture your army.  Our (Bosnian) army arose from similar conditions and
now it is a guarantee of our existance.
Sincerely
Emir   (Chicago)

I have friend's who are Jehovah's Witnesses. I know that there are
some in Kosova. I'm wondering if you have encountered any who got away,
or who may be in the refugee camps. Jehovah's Witnesses are peaceful
people in no matter what country they reside. Please let me know if
there are survivors. Thank you very much.

I pray that all kosovars are safe no matter where they are. These are
indeed trying times for all no matter what religion a person may
practice.

--

Which is more important, the land or the lives? I must support saving the
innocents trapped by the fascist Serbs. Negotiate now, stop the bombing of
Serbia, and get the non-combatants food and medical care. Then you would have
a free fire zone against Milosevic's slavish troops, the only ones deserving
of bombs and bullets. Stop the bombing and arm the KLA with whatever it takes
on the ground.

Dear Kosova Crisis Center,

I really enjoy your web site.  I like reading the letters of support
most of all.  It gives me such warmth and hope to see the words of
Muslims, Christians and Jews in solidarity in their support and
compassion for the Kosovar Albanians.  We are like one -- brothers and
sisters created by God, believing in the same God.  We can always live
together in harmony and friendship, with mutual respect and in peace.
It is only ignorant people and evil people like Milosovic who try and
divide us and create hatreds.

As a Muslim, I have only the greatest respect and love for my Christian
and Jewish brothers and sisters.  From the bottom of my heart, I thank
them for their compassion and generosity.  May God bless and protect the
Kosovars and all innocent people who suffer from oppression and tyranny,
including Serbs.

Whoever is behind this web site, you are doing a great job.  Keep up the
good work!

I'm in conference with two large Dutch Companies, who are willing to support
us with communication equipment. They are very willing to help, but there
are at the moment only about 400 people in the refugeehelp-database. Can we
share some information ( linking databases) to pull these companies over the
line to donate laptops, transport, etc. If this succeed, I need your help to
take care these equipment arrives to the right place.

Hope to hear soon,

AssalaamOAlaikum,

We have provided a link to your site from our home page, also, we
are providing news and reports that we receive on our site.

We have forwarded you press coverage of Muslim community in San
Francisco Bay Area in preparation to receive Kosovars who are
arriving today. We hope to bring audio/video coverage on the
net and will like to share those video clips with you.

We also need to reach as many families as possible for co-hosting
arriving Kosovars, we have a list of 31 families so far. Will you
be able to help out and distribute the message to reach Muslims
in California.

Thanks for all your effort in providing timely and much needed
information keep up the good work!

I come from San Juan, Puerto Rico, located at the Caribbean.
I'm interested in adopting a kosovar child, which possibilities for an
education and life quality are low.
I would like to know if you could help me with this, providing the
information of possibilities and procedures.  I'm sure this would be
helpful to one of all this children suffering war and hunger.

Catholic Charities in Louisville, Kentucky is expecting the arrival of 100 -
200 Kosovar refugees over the next few months.  Other agencies in the city
are also planning to resettle refugees fleeing Kosova.  The city is primed to
welcome the refugees, and we have received offers of assistance from hundreds
of people interested in opening their homes and hearts to these newest
arrivals.  However, we have very few Albanian speakers here in Louisville. We
are in desperate need of persons who speak Albanian and who would be willing
to offer assistance for a few months.  Compensation is available.  We'd
appreciate any help in contacting people who might be able to help out
temporarily.  For more information, contact Mary Cleary or Patrick Delahanty

Hi, I run a web site parodying the main serb ministry of info web site on
kosovo - it's at http://www.serbia-info.org - the serb site is at
www.serbia-info.com -  the site pokes a lot of fun at milosevic and at the
same time offers a lot of serious content about his atrocities against the
people of Kosovo.  If you have any ability to pass the word to others about
my site, whether through web links or simply by emailing the url to others
who might be interested, I'd appreciate it.

Keep up the good fight.

Hi There,

My boyfriend is from Kosova, and has now had word that his two youngest
brothers are in
Kokkruk, Albania.  Would you be able to tell me how we could go about
having them
brought here to London?  I am unsure of who to contact to arrange this.

All the people of Kosova are in my prayers each day and I worry for the
whereabouts of the
rest of my boyfriends family.  I pray it is over soon.

Thank you

As you may know Microsoft is sponsoring a project to help refugee families
to reunite in Albania.   As consultants to Microsoft, we have been asked to
donate some of our time to help them set up the internal website which will
help to run this system.

Therefore,   could someone please translate the phrase "Reuniting families"
into Albanian?  This can be either a phonetic translation or in Cyrillic
script.

Good luck, and very best wishes to all of you.  I wish that there was more
that we could do to help you all.

Alb-Net Response: Just a quick note - the Albanian language does not use the Cyrillic script but the Latin one.

Dear Friends at Albanian Net

I know there are other issues at hand at the moment,
but in case you are not aware of this site

http://www.jbs.org/

which leads to

http://www.jbs.org/tna/1999/05-24-99/vo15no11_kla.htm

and

http://www.jbs.org/Focus/focus_kosovo.htm

....Theyre doing their usual fine job at twisting and distorting
reality -

They are an old radical right-wing isolationist group here in the US.
(some might say they are or at least were hate group),
They were once considered a bit crazy, even by some conservatives,
but they now are seemingly revived and trying to give an appearance of
reason and legitimacy
- it's not surprising that they are on Slobo's side.

....just thought you'd be interested in case you didn't know already.

with regards to you, and with sincere desire for peace and justice for
Kosovar Albanians,
all the best.

Assalam Aleykum!

Independent film-maker Yerlan Askarbekov from Almaty, Kazakstan are going
to produce documentary about refugees from Kosovo. Today Kosovar tragedy
remind for Kazaks associations with analogous events at XVIII century. At
the time Zhungars (Pagan West Mongols) exciled and killed Kazaks as Serbs
make the same on Kosovars. We as independent crew are going reflect
humanitarian crisis at the end of millennium. We not pursue political
situations. Our purpose to open a theme distress and horrors of war for the
peace population. As far as it in our forces, we would like to warn the
compatriots of political adventures, which result in similar accidents.
We want to make videorecordings of refugee camps, frontier reception
points, interviews of the refugees. Probably, we will manage to get
videorecordings directly from Kosovo with representatives of KLA (Kosovo
Liberation Army). We are going to fly to region into Istanbul (Turkey), then
go through Bulgaria to Skopje (Macedonia), then go northern to border with
Serbia and move through territory of Macedonia and Albania along the
Yugoslavian border. Duration of shooting period is 2 weeks. But as from
Kazakstan up to the region it is necessary to go some day and to cross some
borders, the full duration of travel approximately will be 3 weeks.
The crew are: film-director & cameraman (from Kazakstan), 2 or 1
interpreters (from Macedonia & Albania), local manager (which will conclude
the contracts of hiring, will organize the visas, residence and necessary
contacts), 2 or 1 drivers (from Macedonia & Albania). The equipment are:
lease of 2 cars, Betacam SP videocamera and video editing studio.
We need financial support at a rate of 20,000 USD. We with gratitude shall
accept the help in any size.
Our crew have experience of cooperation with Soros-Foundation at 1998 in
producing of documentary about HIV/AIDS & drug addiction problems in
post-soviet Kazakstan. Below are name & details of my advisor, she can
inform you more completely:

Dear Kosova Crisis Centre:

There is an error in the address for the Canadian account of "VENDLINDJA

The correct address is:

Waterloo Regional Credit Union

I spoke with an employee of the Credit Union, and she informed me that
the name of the account #2631020 is "Homeland Calling". They do not use
the Albanian name in their files.

I hope you will update your webpage with this corrected information.

We must take a look at the world today. Perhaps through the eyes of  innocent Albanian children that are killed everyday for the simple reason of greed. A "Greater Serbia?" how about a Greater planet. Peace around the world will probably never be achieved but we must try and get as close as possible.

We must ask ourselves how can we stop these atrocities? There is no simple answer because of too much intervention from others countries like Russia and China. People must understand that these countries are only supporting Milosevic for their own political gain. Russia is attempting to justify what had and is happenning in Chechnya and China is doing the same in regards to Tibet.

These acts of selfishness must be acted upon. Everyone points the finger at the U.S. for stepping in but again if you or myself were in trouble the first people or nation we would expect to help us would be the United States,

I do not agree with war for ethnic or land distribution reasons but when innocent lives are being killed where do you draw the line??

We must love eachother and respect our fellow man, not because we have to but because no one asked where to be born or what family to be born into to.

RESPECT OUR FELLOW MAN, GOD BLESS EVERYONE MY PRAYERS OUR FOR YOU.

I´m so sad, and the worst is it doesnt help. Why ! Why ! Is  the human race so cruel?

My heart is bleading when I see the Kosovo - people, innocent Children suffering like they do , old women and men. mothers and fathers , (if they still is alive) Familys split up. This is so low we are worse than any animal race on the hole Earth.

I´m so ashamed of calling me Homo Sapiens (Human) Why isn´t any body doing something radical for helping??????

Happy New Ýear 2000 isn´t fantastic, soon  we are going to celebrate. What is the Kosovo-Albans going to do? This is just as bad as World War 2.

Kosovo-Albans - Jews The story goes in repeat.

Dear Sirs,
as the whole world, I'm also astonished with that stupid war.
But one specific image is still driving me crazy.
I'm talking about one picture taken by REUTERS on April 15, 99; in a
hospital in Djakovica (please see attached).
It shows one 11 month baby (Besijana Nuraj) with her 10 years old
sister, Sabrneta.
I beg for any information on that baby and I'm personally bent on HELP
this child anyway.
Any info would strongly help.

If you do not have any information, please forward this message for
anyone that you think that may help me in my research.

Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for your web-page.

One question, when reading reports from Kosovapress it is often hard to get a
picture of what events look like on the ground.

Can you recommend a web page with good maps of Kosova that show KLA areas
mentioned in the reports?

Thanks, Tim Sparks

To Alb-net.com:

This is the text of a letter I sent to the President of the United States
today.  I have also sent similar letter to my congressman.  I urge others to
send similar messages in order to bring to a close this horrific tragedy in
Kosova.  The text of the letter is as follows.

Mr. President,

I would like first to thank you for the opportunity to write.  This is a
freedom not shared by a great number of people living on our planet.

I am writing today to ask you to use your influence to support a ground
entry of U.S. troops in the Kosova region.  After reading the opinions of
members of your Chief's of Staff in the press, they indicate that the war is
not winnable based on the current "air only" combat option.

Mr. President, our military forces are professionally trained and should be
utilized to end the slaughter and forced deportation of ethnic Albanians
from their homeland in Kosova.  The British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair,
has proposed to send British ground troops to engage the murderous JNA and
Chetnik bands, which are killing, raping, maiming, and destroying the lives
and property of ethnic Albanians in Kosova.

I spent the weekend reading documents from the International War Crimes
Tribunal on the events that happened in Vukovar, Croatia, in 1991.

It is clear that Milosevic ordered JNA troops and incited Serbian
paramilitary Shetniks to slaughter 260 Croatian men aged 16-60.

The writing is in history, and now it is on the wall.

Please do what you can to set the wheels in motion for a US ground assault
on Kosova.  It is clear that the American public backs the end of genocide
in Kosova.

If the politicians don't have the stomach to send ground troops, we are, in
a sense, a responsible contributor to genocide and murder.

I honestly hope you had the opportunity to see this letter, and if you did,
thank you for taking the time to read it.

Very Sincerely Yours,

Mr. Shannon B. McCain

Four of them are students away from home , so we have plenty of room in our house for a family and we would like to share it with  a Kosova family until they can get back to their homeland. Please let us know what we can do to help you. You will be most welcome here with us and we will do our best to make you happy during your visit. Our home will be yours.

Sincerely, Paul and Louise Farrell

I am really surprised the USA continues to use
Milosivic's  marketing term for genocide in all of
it's  programming.  I fear for the uneducated
Americans who are subjected to any hate groups picking
up this term for cleaning up their neighborhoods.

Anyone who thinks that limiting the human gene pool in
any way at all is clearly a MADMAN.  And having the
whole world allowing him to continue to use a word
that implys clean is just as much of a crime.  We need
to stop working for him and use words that describe
what is happening.  Killing people is genocide,
murder, he is creating a holocaust.  Please use
terms that will confuse less people.  We can not let
his campaing creep into our vocabulary.

Cleaning is for getting rid of sharp objects so
children can play, not killing people.  Killing
people baised on race, religon, kreed, or sexual
pereference is GENOCIDE!!!

"Cleansing" is a disengenous term created by people
trying to justify behavior that needs to be STOPPED!!

Please atleast use the term "cleansing" and "genocide"
in the same sentence to reinforce how horiffic
wholesale slaughter of humanbeings is.  Ideally we
would stop using Milosivic's marketing term
altogether.

Thank your for taking the time to read this letter.
I sincerely hope that you continues to inform people
with terms all education levels can understand.

I just read the Serb Blueprint for Cleansing Kosova.  I am shocked that
a supposedly legitimate and self declared "Orthodox Christian"
government could become so depraved, callous, and manipulative; but it
is obvious that this plan of theirs is exactly what is and has been
going on in Kosova.  These people are like the Nazis.  If NATO ever does
win this war, they should make sure that no Serb police, military,
government officials, or even "Serb loyalists citizens" are able to
remain in Kosova - unless there is a fundamental change in the Serb
government - or else these intrigues and depravations will never end and
we will be policing that place forever.

What has possessed these people that they have become so blinded by
their greed and nationalism that they have lost their humanity,
fairness, and decency and seem willing to trade consignment to hell in
the afterlife for temporary material gains in this life?  This is not
real Christianity.  These people have been deceived.

Before anyone in the international media or U.S. and European
governments continues to defend or excuse what the Serbs are doing, they
should read this document and see if they can in all conscience condone
it.  Media propaganda is part of the Serbs blueprint, and we should not
be helping them to carry out their heinous plans.

--

It is unbelieveable that we are approaching the new millenium, and still
plagued by evil dictators.  Do the Serbian people really believe in their
leader? Surely they must see that he has a twisted view of how things should
be. With advanced communications and modern travel the world is now smaller
than it used to be and we are all neighbours in a global community.  We
don't have to invite our neighbours into our homes but we do have to live
along side each other, tolerance is all it takes, why fight over land it
will still be there after we are long gone. I hope it doesn't take too long
and too many more lives before Milosovich is overthrown and the people of
Kosova can start rebuilding their lives. My heart aches to see so many
families torn apart and so many needless deaths.  I hope the kosovar people
can take some small comfort from the fact that people do care and are on
their side. good luck and God speed to the KLA

Dear Sir,
My name is Nahed El Shazly, I am an employee in the World Health

I would like to ask if there is a possibility to adopt an Albanian child? Do
you deal with such matters? If not would you kindly show me the way where to
find an adoption center in Albania?
Thank you very much.

As a child growing up on the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, I was only
exposed to swimming, boating, horseback riding, walking thru trails in the
woods, and my biggest worry was getting good marks in school.  When I see
the reports of the devistating situation in Kosova, I am mortified.  The
look in the eyes of these small children who are there not by choice but by
circumstance is beyond words to me.  I am simply appalled that in the year
1999 all of this is happening.  I don't have any answers for this mess but
the people who have the power must find some, these innocent people are
being slaughtered.  This only reinforces to me that I am so glad I was born
in Canada and I believe in my heart that this is the best country to live
and raise my children in.

Dear Sir/Madam

Due to the increased demand for Albanian books by the Kosovan refugees who
started arriving to the UK recently, we are interested in finding out where
to buy these books from, preferably in quantities.

It is good to see that there are many caring, concerned folk is this day of crisis.  Here in Africa we are also watching our own civil war - Congo - with horror.  A particular video stands out in my mind showing to young soldiers, possibly still teenagers, throwing an older person over a bridge and then shooting at him. The sheer delight on their faces was deplorable.  People such as Kabile, Mugabe etc are been compared to Milosovic, people who care naught for their fellow humans. An article I read again this morning had be sitting with tears, and when I listen the the news the same problem. Tears of horror, frustration.

Again I put in my offer for taking in a child or siblings in the Kosovo crises who have lost their entire family. I may not be rich, but I live in a comfortable home, have a wonderful family who will take that child/ren in as their own brother/sister, and love will be never ending. Lots of it.

Who can I get in touch with.

Also, has our president been approached to help with the refugee crisis. President Mandela has a special place in his heart for children. I am sure that there are families here in SA who would be willing to help where possible.

A letter to the Serbian-controlled state media. Everyday I worry for you and
hope that you are all safe, and that you will return home soon.

To whomever it may concern:

I would like to commend you on your outstanding use of propaganda.  It is
rather sad, and unfortunate, that the remainder of the world knows the real
truth.  I recognize the use of propaganda in war, and that both sides use it
- but the Serbia's state-controlled media is so one-sided and biased, that
it is hard to believe anything you say that hasn't been confirmed by outside
neutral sources (non US media).  It reminds me of what one would read in
Pravda or Izvestiya before the demise of the USSR.

Quit Kosova and give peace a chance.  You want the bombing to stop, so do I.
However, this cannot happen as ethnic Albanians continue to be harassed,
robbed, raped, tortured, and killed by JNA and Chetnik forces in Kosova and
Montenegro.

I am sorry for the losses of innocent Serbs, but the facts are undeniable.
Serbian paramilitary "Chetniks" and members of the JNA murdered, raped, and
beat Croatians in Vukovar, and this information is available for the world
to see in the International War Crimes Tribunal documents;  and many who
were responsible are allowed safe haven in Serbia.  It is hard not to
believe it is happening again in Kosova.

Milosevic is more concerned about his power base than he is about Serbia,
and as a result, thousands of innocents die, and even more to flee.  I do
not believe that he cares even about a "greater Serbia," but only his
ability to control others.

The writing is on the wall, quit Kosova and give peace a chance.  I
recognize that we look at the world from two very different vantage points,
but I grow tired of hearing about the losses of all innocents, Serb and
Albanian alike.

Hello,
Today I just noticed that you have a database for the location
of missing persons in the Albanian language.  Before I found out
about your database,  I tried to accomplish the same thing, but in
English since I don't speak Albanian or know anybody who does.
I hope my website might be of some help to you if I can get people
to send information to me about missing relatives. I have been
trying to establish contacts in various aid agencies.
On Sunday, May 9, I  launched an internet website to become a
bulletin board for the identification and location of missing,
unidentified or displaced persons to enable them to locate their
relatives or for aid agencies to identify unidentified children or
victims of amnesia.  Of course, this site would be accessible by
individuals or agencies from any place in the world having internet
access. This site currently has only 3 fictitious persons displayed for
the purposes of demonstrating how the site functions.  The site is
now 100% functional, but needs some real refugee data to be
entered. The current  website address is:

   http://millennium.fortunecity.com/sherwood/806

I am requesting that agencies or individuals email photographs
(in JPG image format) and details of refugees (including a physical
description with age, weight, gender, height, home town, present
location -if known-) who want to be featured on this website so
that I can make this site 100% operational.  If some individuals
would like to keep their family name off the internet, they can be
identified by an ID number  (It's probably better to use,
at least a first name -if available - for the purposes of better
identification.) while more complete information could be
retained in a separate data base with an ID number index. Some
digital cameras create images in JPG format on a floppy disk.

I have been in touch with various refugee relief agencies about this
website, but I still have many more to contact. What is needed is
somebody at the various refugee camps to take digital pictures and
collect personal information to be emailed to me for inclusion on
my website. I intend to recruit  student volunteers to help maintain
the website.  I intend to operate it on a non-profit basis, but I
anticipate that there may be some minimal costs involved to hire
someone to do data entry if I am unable to recruit student
volunteers. Please reply to this email if you have any questions,
comments or suggestions.

Thanks,
Joe McGhee

Other Points of View (Counterpoint)  or  Opinion Article

My husband and I have just returned from Albania. What can we say about
our trip? We met the refugees face to face and had many interviews with
them; we saw their living conditions and their suffering first hand, and
we listened to their stories. The Kosovars who were able to make it into
Albania-over 400,000!-have lost everything: possessions, money, identity
papers, certificates… They have nothing, and the majority of them have
suffered severe traumatic experiences. It was particularly heartbreaking
to visit a hospital in Tirana, the capital of Albania, where one of the
many patients is a little boy, Marwan, just seven-years-old, whose hip
and legs were broken as a result of being struck with the butt of a
rifle! Why such hatred for a little kid?

In that same hospital, which is in dire need of all kinds of surgical
equipment and supplies, doctors implanted a metal stud in a woman's leg
to hold it together; it had been shot off by a sniper's bullet. Another
woman had lost four daughters (17 to 22); they had been abducted and
taken to a rape camp-never to be seen or heard from again! We heard
stories of Serbs cutting off the ears of Kosovars and threatening to kill
them in order to extract money from their parents and relatives! Others
related that children's eyes were gouged and their throats were cut when
their parents could not come up with certain sums of money. Imagine the
trauma of witnessing this! I still ask why?

We talked to a man who said that a Serb policeman at the border held a
gun to his son's head and demanded 800 Marks. The man gave him everything
he had to save his son. We were told that Serbs, after stealing
everything of value in them, burned the homes of Kosovars with people in
them-including children, women, and old people. A young engineer (28) and
his wife (24), carrying her two-year-old child, were shot dead among many
others. Thank God, the mother fell over the child, who was found alive
many hours later. The child now lives with another family at a camp in
Tirana. The stories go on and on-sickening and heartbreaking.

Most Kosovars who came into Albania came on foot, walking anywhere from
17 to 30 hours; those who were too old, too sick, or too feeble to leave
were murdered by the Serbs. I interviewed a young man who had just
crossed into Albania three days earlier. I asked him how the people in
the mountains of Kosova-there are tens of thousands of them still hiding
there-were surviving. He said that they were eating dog meat to survive!
It is hard to believe that all of this is happening right now-yet it is!

The town of Kukes, just 18 miles from the Kosova-Albanian border, used to
house 24,000 inhabitants. Today it is the home of 224,000! You cannot
imagine the sanitation and utilities problems there. To reach this town,
humanitarian convoys must go through 150 miles of mountainous roads,
which are dangerous and in very bad condition. It took us 7 hours to get
there! Thank God, we were able to distribute the few supplies we had
carried from Minneapolis. The people of Kosova were very happy to see and
hear from and receive a helping hand from ordinary people living in the
U.S.

So it was very shocking to us to read Timothy Brennan's article, "War on
Yugoslavia is illegal, immoral and costly" (STAR TRIBUNE, May 18). It may
be easy for someone standing behind a lecture podium in Minneapolis to
say: "Accusations of 'ethnic cleansing' in Kosovo have never been
substantiated." But if Mr. Brennan left the comfort of his intellectually
balanced position and visited even a single refugee camp in Albania, he
would have a very different view of reality.

When you talk to the ethnic Albanian refugees from Kosova, Muslims and
Catholics, who have been expelled from their homes at gunpoint, whose
homes have been plundered and burnt, whose daughters have been captured
and taken to rape camps, whose young boys have been beaten and maimed,
and whose parents have been slaughtered, you cannot say that these are
"military operations against the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA)."

Simply ask yourself what you can say to children who have been beaten,
wounded, or burned by the Serbs? Why did the Serb hate you that much?

Nor do such things, which for some reason we are afraid to call by their
true name (just as the Clinton Administration is afraid to call Milosevic
a "war criminal"), happen in a vacuum. Have we already forgotten about
Greater Serbia? Have we already forgotten about what happened just a few
years ago in Croatia and Bosnia? Have we forgotten about ethnic cleansing
there? Milosevic is a repeat offender and a war criminal.

To suggest that the UN can be part of the solution is wishful thinking at
best. This body has been rendered so weak that it does not even have a
voice of its own. Have we all forgotten about Srebrenica? It was a "safe
haven" under the UN, and the Serbs murdered over 10,000 there before the
UN forces' very eyes. Have we forgotten the 60,000 women who were raped
in Bosnia? Have we forgotten the 250,000 human beings who were killed by
Milosevic's armies while the world and the UN watched, silent and
helpless.

The UN cannot even be part of the solution where the refugees are
concerned. Consider the status of UN resolutions with regard to the
Palestinian refugees. Have the resolutions been implemented?  And we
still talk about the UN! What UN?

As for the claim that ethnic cleansing started as a result of the
bombing, we asked that very question in interview after interview. All
the Kosovar refugees said that they had left because of the atrocities in
Kosova-atrocities that had started before the bombing.

Is the bombing right? Is it legal? No. But how can we talk about what is
legal and what is not in the absence of all law? If law existed, if law
were respected and implemented, wouldn't we have arrested, convicted, and
punished Milosevic and all his aides (including Karadic and Mladic) for
their war crimes in Croatia and Bosnia? Instead we make deals with
criminals. Is that legal?

We say we respect the rights of other human beings. If so, why don't we
recognize Kosova as an independent state and allow the Kosovars to defend
themselves? Have we forgotten what it means to be independent? Is the
Fourth of July now just a fireworks display? Have we forgotten the
history of this country and what sacrifices had to be made for the sake
of independence? Is it legal and moral to put obstacles in front of
others seeking their own independence?

We say we want peace and stability in the world, yet we rob the UN of all
tools and resources that could help it become an agent for the resolution
of conflicts. We say we want justice, yet we do not properly fund or
support the International War Crimes Tribunal. Is that legal? Is that
moral?

There seem to be many hidden agendas in what we do. And until we
understand and find remedies for the causes of human injustice towards
other human beings, we cannot call ourselves civilized.

I have sent an email to a couple of news organizations hoping that they
would publish the two URL's I have listed in the email message.  I believe
it would help if you would email these two URL's to your subscribers so they
can see the total fabrications coming from the Serb propaganda machine.  I
also believe putting these on your site would help people realize and be
able to see for themselves the Serb lying propaganda machine at work.

By looking at the picture on this URL I would believe that the woman
probably picked up an explosive.  Her hands have been severed from her arms
and in all probability that would not have happened (from a percussion from
a dropped bomb) had she been standing upright.

ARE YOU SENDING THESE PICTURES OF DEAD PEOPLE TO THE USA NEWSPAPERS?
AMERICA IS NOT SEEING CLOSE UP WHAT IS HAPPENING.  JIM

--

I understand that Netherland, China, and the Russians have good relations with Milocevic and they agree the way Milocevic is doing his business.

My question is: Why are you people not inviting representatives or a committees from these countries to look at the atrocities done by the Serbs. If you commit your queries or only focus in USA and NATO and the western countries you won't get any where.

NATO will continue bombing the Serbs and the Serbs will continue retaliating killing your people for ever until everybody is gone or dead.

Why don't you people provide good valid intelligence to NATO telling them where the enemy is and how to get there?

What happend to the famous KLA? Are they still massacreing Serbs or are they defending Kosorvans from Serbs?

NATO does not have a Rambo unit to defend you people, you have to do it yourself.

Please reply..

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Sorry for the intrusion, but I need your help.

My name is Doug Brooks and I am a board member at Prince of Peace United
Methodist Church.  We are a small "country" church located in a suburban
area near Washington D.C.  We are sponsoring a Kosovo family from Fort Dix,
N.J. and will be receiving them within the month.  As you can imagine, we
are scrambling to organize things and provide for this family who has
suffered so much.  I am happy to report that things are going well and
people of all faiths and backgrounds have stepped forward to help us out...
of course, there is plenty more to be done.

In order to raise funds for the family's expenses, we are hosting a Kosovo
benefit dinner for the youth of our area.  The dinner is offering high
school students an opportunity to meet successful college students and
graduates who are willing to share their college experiences.  We are
trying to gather 20 college students to speak for 5-10 minutes apiece and
eat/socialize with the youth.  The "event" will raise awareness to the
current crisis in Kosovo and encourage caring and charity towards the
displaced Albanians.

The only adult speaking that night is an Albanian from our area who will be
briefing the students on the situation...WE ARE SEEKING AN ALBANIAN COLLEGE STUDENT OR RECENT GRADUATE(S) WHO WOULD BE WILLING TO COME AND SHARE IN THIS EVENT.  Please, if you know of any students who would come and share, I think it would be a wonderful experience for our youth and would contribute to the cause.

Again, I apologize for the intrusion and know this must seem quite forward;
but we really feel like this is something that must be done and is our duty
as Chrisitians, Americans, and human beings.  This IS NOT a church event
and is not meant to evangelize or propose any Christian agendas.  This is a
meeting of youth from EVERy religious and political background imaginable.
Please consider helping any way you can.

The event is planned for June 8, 1999 from 6pm until 10pm.  The location is
Manassas, Virginia (25 minutes southwest of Washington D.C.)

Your time and any efforts are greatly appreciated.

Doug Brooks

It seems strange that yesterday the BBC was reporting that morale was high
in the Yugoslav army and the conscripts that had evaded the army or deserted
were in fact few (300 -500) prodominantly young serbs or ethnic muslims
forced into the army from the region of Sandzjak.  Now they are telling us
of mass desertions.  Strange???  Why the mis-information???

There were similar reports from other papers and articles on the internet.

You hang in there. I am supporting you by writing congress, the president and news papers in my area. But I do get sick and tired of the newss peoplealways talking about the suffering of the Serb people. Well what about all the suffering of your people and the others over the years that have been murdered by the Serbs. God has a interesting way of evening up the score. Otis

To whom this concerns,
I have worked with the people of Kosova at CFB Greenwood for the past
few weeks. I have heard many of the stories that they had to tell and i
must say that there is no justice for what the serbs have done to these
people and i must say this is worse than living hell for them.
Now i have made alot of friends on this mission, and i must say that
besides peace in your country, i would never trade this oppertunity,
of getting to know these people, and knowing that i have had the
privilage to meet these most wonderful people i know and i am honoured
to be able to help them and make them feel more safer than what they
feel now. I can't express how badly it breaks my heart to see this all
take place,But i can tell you that us Canadians feel only to proud to
have the honour of helping you all. Good luck in Kosovo and i wish you
only the very best of luck because god only knows how you desearve it.
We are all thinking about you and we are all praying for you.

I live in Michigan, USA (near Detroit). I heard that Kosovo refugees are coming
to US. Will they be provided shelter and support by the US government or will
they stay with private people at their home?

The reason I am asking this question is that couple of people here are willing
to help their brothers and sisters from Kosovo. If some one wants to support a
family or even children, how they can do that?

Please reply if you have any information regarding this.
Thanks.
